On the southern side of the charming Trinidad, Colorado, lays Trinidad Lake State Park, Fishers Peak State Park, & The Challenge Trail. These State parks are absolute havens for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring breathtaking views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and the stunning Spanish Peaks. The State Parks are open 24 hours, with daily access from 5 AM to 10 PM.
Originally developed as part of a dam built in 1977 to protect Trinidad from flooding, the park offers ample picnic areas, a playground, a volleyball court, numerous trails, and a campground with wonderful showers, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings. Birdwatchers will delight in the diverse species that inhabit the park, including songbirds, waterfowl, and the majestic peregrine falcons, KNOWN AS THE FASTEST ANIMAL ON EARTH!!As these remarkable birds mate for life, their nesting season will conclude at the end of July , making it the perfect time to prepare for the Fisher Peak Challenge—a hike to the top of Fisher Peak, standing at 9,633 feet, where adventurers can experience breathtaking views. Get ready!
Keep an eye out for black bears wandering the area; these fascinating creatures are part of the vibrant wildlife that enriches the park’s ecosystem!
